DCLT SUMMER AUCTION – July 25, 2021

The DCLT Summer Auction Planning Committee is in motion!  We are hopeful that by this summer, we will be able to hold a in-person or for health reasons, a hybrid in-person/partly virtual event  As the summer approaches, we will make a final decision based on recommendations from the federal Centers for Disease Control (CDC), the Massachusetts Governor’s office, and the Town of Dennis. We will keep you, our Members, Friends and Sponsors update on our plans as the time approaches.  We miss you, and hope to see you all in a few months time!

DCLT seeks LAND MANAGER

The DCLT seeks qualified candidates to fill the new position of Land Manager.  Responsibilities of the Land Manager include: setting priorities for land management; training and overseeing land stewardship volunteers; assisting with fundraising associated with the DCLT’s land management responsibilities; and planning, creating and mapping new and existing trails and properties.

The ideal candidate has a commitment to land conservation, knowledge of sustainable forestry  as well as coastal land management practices, and familiarity with wetland restoration projects. He/she works effectively with groups as well as individually, is self-motivated, and works well with a diversity of tasks and in a diverse environment. He/she exercises sound judgment and models integrity, honesty, and professionalism.

Required skills include: the ability to work outdoors, individually and on a team, to maintain DCLT owned and managed properties; comfortably and safely use both power and hand tools; maintain reports on DCLT lands and have strong oral and written communication skills, facility with computer hardware and software (Microsoft Office applications, Filemaker and ArcGIS); knowledge of the natural history of Cape Cod; and teaching experience in informal settings.

Job Description: The Land Manager is responsible for developing and achieving goals for land stewardship, and lead in the management of the DCLT’s 650 acres with direction from the Executive Director, and in consultation with the Board of Trustees’ Land Committee. The Land Manager also recruits and oversees the DCLT’s Land Stewardship Volunteer Program and run trainings and recognition events for volunteers. In addition the Land Manager assists the Executive Director with outreach to members, donors, local and regional nonprofits, and schools (K-12). Outreach activities include walks/talks, webinars, social media/eBlasts, newsletters, brochures and other publications

Job Title:  DCLT LAND MANAGER

Reports to:   Executive Director  (ED)

Work week:  40 hours, plus some evenings and weekends.

Salary:  Commensurate with experience.

Benefits:  Standard federal holidays, plus three weeks paid vacation; health insurance; retirement.

 

DETAILED JOB DESCRIPTION DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Specific Duties:

  • Determines work priorities with ED
  • Maintains condition of DCLT land, trails, equipment
  • Installs and maintains signage, kiosks, fencing, bridges or other structures
  • Eliminates hazardous conditions on DCLT lands
  • Maintains work records
  • Reviews data concerning effectiveness of land maintenance activities
  • Prepares monthly report to ED and/or Board on activities and effectiveness
  • Assists with budget preparation by projecting land management needs and preparing cost estimates
  • Assists with fundraising for stewardship-related expenses
  • Assist Board of Trustees Committees, as assigned
  • Assist with development of school, member, and volunteer educational programs
  • Plans and organizes work for volunteers and interns
  • Provides training for volunteers and interns as needed
  • Develops maps, other visuals, and written descriptions of DCLT land projects.

 Capabilities:

  • Able to work outdoors in all types of weather, and able to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Comfortable working indoors in an office setting as required
  • Willing to work varied shifts and/or irregular hours at times
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Positive “can do” attitude
  • Sense of humor

LICENSE/CERTIFICATES Required:  Possession of a current and valid Massachusetts Motor Vehicle Operator’s License (required);  CPR & Wilderness First Aid (desired)
