SUMMARY:Tick Talk & Walk at Not Enough Acres Farm
DESCRIPTION:Join us May 7th\, from 5:30pm-7pm for a Tick Talk & Walk at the Dennis Conservation Land Trust’s Not Enough Acres Farm. \nWe’ll be in safe hands with Escher Cattle\, an entomologist and extension educator for Barnstable County’s Cape Cod Cooperative Extension. Escher will take us tick sampling and flagging in a meadow on our property as an exercise. \nThe last thing you want to know is that we’ll have a good variety of ticks out and about as peak season is ramping up but good to know how we can spot and repel (as much as humanly possible) different ticks! \nEscher received his Bachelor of Science in Insect Ecology & Conservation from University of Delaware in 2018\, and his Master of Science in Entomology from North Carolina State University in 2025. He splits his time between training the Cape Cod Master Gardener program and tickborn disease prevention education\, providing expertise on all things creepy-crawly in his own playful-yet-informative way. \nRSVP here!

SUMMARY:Artist + Natural Plant Dyer Natalie Stopka Book Signing & Demo
DESCRIPTION:Join us on May 13th\, 2pm-4pm and step into a world where art\, science\, and nature converge at the Dennis Conservation Land Trust and celebrate the launch of the book From Plant to Pigment with author and textile artist Natalie Stopka. \n \nNatalie will kick off her talk with a demo making invasive buckthorn into a usable pigment + a book talk and signing that will make you rethink where color comes from while also shining a light on the vital role of water and plants in conservation. \nIn addition to the demo and talk\, Natalie will introduce us to her traveling archive of over 200 hand-crafted plant pigments from sources you won’t believe! Each hue tells a story of transformation: from wild-foraged plants to radiant inks\, paints\, and pastels\, and reveals the delicate balance between natural materials and the environments they come from. \n \nThis event places a special focus on water quality and ecological stewardship.\nLearn how something as seemingly simple as water is essential not only for vibrant\, lasting pigments\, but for the health of the ecosystems that produce them. \nYou’ll also discover how plants themselves play a powerful role in conservation. From filtering and protecting waterways to serving as renewable sources of color\, botanical materials offer a path toward more sustainable creative practices. Through stories of traditional pigment-making and modern experimentation\, Natalie connects the dots between art\, environmental awareness\, and responsible sourcing. \n \nNatalie will be selling and signing copies of From Plant to Pigment at the event! \nRSVP here!
