SUMMARY:Cape Cod Clean Water Week: Biochar Tour at Robert B. Our
DESCRIPTION:As part of Cape Cod Clean Water Week\, Robert B. Our Co.\, Inc. is collaborating with DCLT on September 17th from 3pm-4:30pm\, and hosting a tour showcasing its custom topsoil and premium compost materials made from ingredients like local biochar\, Chatham kelp\, and innovative ingredients such as green crab compost. \nBiochar is a carbon-rich material that can play an important role in protecting water quality. Its highly porous structure can help retain nutrients and certain pollutants in soil\, reducing the amount that can move into groundwater and nearby ponds\, streams\, and coastal waters. By helping soils hold onto nutrients and water\, biochar can support healthier soils while reducing nutrient runoff. \nAs part of the tour\, attendees will learn how biochar can be incorporated into compost and soil mixes as one of many tools for building healthier soils and supporting Cape Cod’s clean water goals. \nThe tour will also give attendees an inside look at PlantGro\, an eco-conscious soil solution made with locally sourced materials. PlantGro’s premium mix features biochar\, Chatham kelp\, and innovative ingredients such as green crab compost\, demonstrating how sustainable materials can help improve soil health\, support long-term plant growth\, and contribute to healthier landscapes. \nRSVP here.\n*Please follow these instructions for parking at Robert B. Our.

SUMMARY:Chapin Beach Birding with MJ Foti & Dann Jung
DESCRIPTION:Come and join us for a birding adventure with naturalists MJ Foti and Dann Jung at Chapin Beach\, September 28th at 8am. \nPlease join us for this exciting time of year when shorebird migration reaches full swing. We hope to see many species\, along with sandpipers\, Turnstones\, terns and gulls\, gathering and feeding in numbers with the first of the incoming tide. Please bring binoculars if you have them. Beach shoes or sandals are strongly recommended for stability and to protect feet on this somewhat rocky shoreline. \nDIRECTIONS: From 6A\, take New Boston Rd and then a slight right onto Beach Street. At the 3-way intersection\, head straight down Taunton Avenue and turn left at the end onto Dr. Botero Rd. Follow this straight up as it becomes Chapin Beach Road which dead ends in the parking lot. Walk the flats on this secluded beach with nice views of Sandy Neck Lighthouse and Grays Beach boardwalk. We’ll be looking for at upwards of 8 species of shorebirds  during peak fall migration. A variety of gulls and terns will also be seen in good numbers. Rubber boots/waterproof shoes are recommended as we wade in ankle deep water on a rocky stretch of beach. High tide 11:08 AM. \nChapin Beach is located at 90 Chapin Beach Road\, Dennis\, MA 02638. \nRSVP here.

SUMMARY:Week 1: Rust\, Rope\, and Iron: Sketching Cape Cod’s Working Heritage
DESCRIPTION:(Take part in all 4 Sessions or just join one) \nThursdays\, October 8\, 15\, 22\, 29\, 2026\,  9:30 am – 11:30 am \nWeek 1: Learning to See: Shape\, Silhouette\, and Purpose (October 8th)\nThe opening session introduces the collection and encourages participants to look at historic implements as functional objects\, visual compositions\, and carriers of human stories. \nRust\, Rope\, and Iron: Sketching Cape Cod’s Working Heritage\, is taught by artist\, photographer\, and science educator\, Mark Kesling\, whose work explores the intersections of art\, science\, and perception. His series is a four-session art\, history\, and technology workshop exploring the tools and implements that shaped everyday work on Cape Cod. \nThroughout the series\, you will examine objects associated with cranberry farming\, agricultural machinery\, mechanical repair\, lifting and hauling\, grinding and sharpening\, fishing\, and shellfishing. Weathered wood\, rusted iron\, worn handles\, pulleys\, gears\, ropes\, hooks\, rakes\, baskets\, and other working surfaces will become subjects for close observation and creative interpretation. \nYour cellphone will serve as both a camera and a visual research tool. You will learn to photograph objects from useful viewpoints\, isolate compelling details\, explore light and shadow\, and create a collection of reference images for drawing. Cellphone-compatible endoscopes will offer an unusual way to peer beneath\, behind\, and inside selected objects\, revealing hidden mechanisms\, fasteners\, joints\, repairs\, textures\, and evidence of repeated use. \nGuided exercises will introduce accessible techniques for drawing complicated objects\, understanding mechanical forms\, suggesting texture\, and combining sketches with photographs\, labels\, written observations\, and historical information. You will gradually develop a series of studies leading to a finished illustrated heritage page or small collection celebrating Cape Cod’s agricultural and maritime past. \nNo previous drawing or photography experience is necessary. The emphasis is on curiosity\, careful observation\, experimentation\, and discovery rather than technical perfection. \nRecommended Supplies: \n\nA fully charged cellphone\nCharging cable or portable battery\, if available\nSketchbook or several sheets of drawing paper\nGraphite pencils\nBlack waterproof pen or fine liner\nEraser and pencil sharpener\nOptional colored pencils or a small watercolor set\n\nRSVP for the October 8th session here.

SUMMARY:Write Out Cape Cod at Not Enough Acres Farm
DESCRIPTION:Join us October 13th\, 4-5:30pm as we participate in Write Out Cape Cod (Oct 11-25)\, a regional extension of the national Write Out initiative. \nThis year’s theme\, Write Where We Stand\, centers writing in the places outdoors that shape and sustain us. \n(We’ll be offering two Write Outs over 2 weeks\, one for adults on October 13th and the other for teens on October 20th.) \nCome on over to Not Enough Acres Farm\, and settle in for a little while to write. \nWe’ll gather at HQ for a warm welcome\, a bit of encouragement\, and a quick refresher on Write Out before drawing a writing prompt from a hat. Then we’ll wander off to find our own quiet corner\, under the trees\, beside the fire\, wherever inspiration calls\, and write for a while. \nBring your own chair or blanket and a notebook. After about half an hour\, we’ll gather back together to share what we’ve written. Read if you’d like\, listen if you’d rather\, and enjoy the simple pleasure of words taking shape around us. \nWe’ll have tea or hot chocolate by the fire\, too. \nNo pressure. No polished pages required. Just a little time in the company of other people who like to put words on paper while out in nature. \nRSVP here.\nAbout Write Out Cape Cod: \nThe 2026 launch of Write Out Cape Cod is the first regional collaboration of its kind\, uniquely linking Cape Cod’s rich arts community and its protected natural environment. Championed by the Barnstable Land Trust and inspired by the Arts Foundation of Cape Cod’s Creative Conversation Series\, Write Out Cape Cod hopes to involve local educators\, libraries\, cultural organizations\, community groups\, parks\, museums\, artists\, poets\, songwriters\, land trusts\, conservation groups\, town departments\, and other partners throughout Cape Cod to get involved with this unique opportunity. \n
