SUMMARY:Birding Crowes Pasture with Naturalists MJ Foti & Dann Jung
DESCRIPTION:Come and join us for a birding adventure with naturalists MJ Foti and Dann Jung at Crowes Pasture on June 17th at 8am. \nTurn onto School Street\, make your first right onto South Street and follow till the end. Meet in the dirt parking lot on the right shortly past the cemetery. This area offers a diversity of habitats including oak and pine woodlands\, fields\, dunes\, beach\, freshwater ponds\, salt marsh\, and tidal creeks. \nThere is also a nest box trail system maintained by Cape Cod Bird Club for Eastern Bluebirds and Tree Swallows. We will walk the main entry road that leads to the meadow before continuing to the beach where oyster farming continues\, with harvesting occurring at low tide. \nRSVP here.\nAbout MJ Foti: \n“I began coordinating walks for Cape Cod Bird Club in 2018 and enjoy working with a strong community of walk leaders and participants eager to share their time and experiences in our beautiful habitats and landscapes with a diverse group of individuals. I also coordinate the club’s annual waterfowl survey first begun by Blair Nikula in 1983. It presently consists of over 40 volunteers who survey about 350 ponds throughout the region every first weekend of December. Participants are instructed to identify and count all the waterfowl (loons\, grebes\, geese\, ducks and coot) present on each pond and enter the info into our waterfowl survey database. The program has been an incredible success\, not only in collecting long term data on these populations\, but in getting people involved\, and growing our conservation community.” \nAbout Dann Jung: \n“I am an aspiring naturalist / conservationist focusing on trees\, birds and habitat. I first became interested when having conversations with my Great-grandmother.  I continued gaining knowledge when on bird and wild flower walks with my Mother. The possibilities and need for conservation became more apparent after reading Aldo Leopold’s A Sand County Almanac.  My readings now include books by Douglas Tallamy such as The Nature of Oaks and Nature’s Best Hope.  As conservation and ecosystems have no boundaries\, I continue to read\, watch\, learn\, do and inspire others.”

SUMMARY:Butterfly Walk and Talk with Gerry Beetham
DESCRIPTION:Join us on June 28th at 1pm at our headquarters to explore the pollinator meadow and the butterflies that use it\, led by Gerry Beetham! \nAfter a career in the business world\, Gerry moved to Cape Cod with his wife in 2012. They volunteered at Mass Audubon’s Long Pasture Wildlife Sanctuary\, tending to the butterfly garden\, as well as the Cape Cod Museum of Natural History’s Butterfly House. They learned about butterflies through this volunteer work\, and soon helped the Harwich Conservation Trust create pollinator gardens. \nToday\, they lead butterfly walks for the Harwich Conservation Trust every year\, focusing on identification\, life cycle\, and the plants that support them. \nCome learn about these beautiful creatures\, and how to attract them to your own garden! \nParking at 107 Sesuit Neck Rd\, East Dennis\, MA 02641 \nRSVP here.
